Running low on annual leave? In need of a quick fix of sun, snow and schnapps? Enter ski weekends and short ski breaks. Sometimes all you need is a short ski break to give you the fix you need - and naturally it can be a great way to save on a trip too.
Because Heidi is so flexible, it's really easy to search for a short ski holiday on our website. You can either put in the exact dates you want, or choose the flexible option on the search calendar and choose 'weekend' or 'long weekend'.

Best resorts for a ski weekend or short break
If you're a beginner to intermediate skier, Leysin, Switzerland is ideal - it's a small and traditional resort, and within striking distance of Lausanne and Geneva (both by car and train). If you're a bit more confident, Soll in Austria is perfect. It has heaps of blue and red runs and quick transfers times, so you can maximise your time on the slopes.
For the more advanced skiers, try Chamonix, France or Courmayeur, Italy. They're quick to get too, with plenty of runs to test you, or you can book a ski guide and head off piste.
Travelling in a group of mixed abilities? Try La Clusaz, or Morzine, France. They've got something for every level of skier and plenty of off-piste for powder fiends and freeride heroes.

How can I maximise my time on slopes during a weekend trip?
Long weekend ski trips are incredible, but without proper planning, you risk not maximising your time carving the slopes or gliding through powder. So to help make sure you get the most from your trip, make sure you follow our top tips below:
- Find a resort with a short transfer time - less time travelling, can mean more time on the slopes and time to get gear and lift passes once you arrive.
- Get early flights out and late flights back - While an early start can be a struggle for night owls, getting an early flight ensures you're spending more time in resort. And naturally, you can further maximise your time in resort by opting for a late flight back, giving you even more time to ski before you have to leave.
- Get accommodation close to the slopes/center of the resort - If you choose accommodation close to the slopes, you'll naturally spend less time getting to first lifts in the morning. Ski-in and ski-out options are often ideal for this reason. Meanwhile, if the resort is out of town and requires a bus to get to it, being close to the bus routes in the center of town means less time travelling to the lifts.
What board basis would you recommend?
While it always comes down to personal preference, nothing beats a good bed and breakfast. Enjoying a hot cooked brekkie or continental option fuels you up for the day ahead (without any of the effort of getting up extra early to prepare it!). But at the same time, it gives you the opportunity to venture out for dinner and exploring the wonders of the resort in the evening.
What size ski area should we choose?
This is another one that all depends on the group you're going with, their ability and how much mileage you think you'll all cover over the weekend. While it can tempting to go to a bigger resort or spend more upgrading the lift pass to access more areas, often, the limited time in resort means you'll likely not get your money's worth.
So best bet is to play it safe. Choose a big enough resort by itself that you'll have plenty to explore. But not too big that you feel like you've missed out on key areas. And by doing this, you'll actually find plenty of options for resorts, that you likely wouldn't consider for a big week-long holiday.
Can I collect the ski pass and equipment hire the day I arrive in the resort?
Depending on when you arrive in resort and when the relevant shops open/close for the day, you'll hopefully be able to grab everything you've ordered once you arrive. This is especially useful if you're getting there in the early afternoon, as it means you can secure everything you need, ready to hit first lifts the very next day.
However, even if the lift pass office and ski hire stores are closed for the day, you'll often find that they open earlier than first lifts. This gives you the opportunity to get up early and get everything you need for a full day on the slopes!
Can I leave my luggage in the hotel before check-in / after check-out?
More often than not, the team managing your accommodation will be happy to offer luggage storage (in the instance that you arrive early or need to check out in the morning).
