Families love skiing in Avoriaz, and for very good reason. All the accommodation is ski-in / ski-out, and as the entire resort is pedestrianised it is possible to safely ski, sledge and play anywhere. Throw in the amazing Aquariaz aqua park, fantastic facilities in the Jardin des Enfants, the horse-and-cart taxi service and a short transfer and you have an unbeatable resort for family ski holidays
2. Flaine, France
Similarly to Avoriaz, Flaine is another purpose built ski resort from the 60s, designed with convenience in mind. The resort is quiet with lots of safe areas for sledging and there’s an abundance of ski-in / ski-out accommodation
3. Maria Alm, Austria
Maria Alm is barely know outside of Austria, but it’s quiet and pretty village is a stress-free resort for a family ski holiday. The slopes are gentle and quiet, and there are numerous child-friendly lifts making it easy to get around the mountain.
4. Sainte Foy Tarentaise
Starting out as a cult off-piste resort when it was developed in the 90s. However Ste Foy is also great for families; the village is very compact and the nursery slopes are excellent, with some nice longer blue runs for confident kids to progress to. The resort is very rarely crowded and the childcare facilities are also very good.
The chocolate-box village of Kaprun is a short 90 minute journey from Salzburg, and has a wondergul setting for a family ski holiday. It has a whole area dedicated to families and kids: the Maiskogel “family mountain" which has gentle slopes, a small snowpark, an abundance of animal sculptures, a tobogganing track and family-friendly restaurants.
